Chief Executive Donald Tsang and Secretary for Home Affairs Dr Patrick Ho have expressed their profound sadness at the death of Chuang Shih-ping, and passed their condolences Mr Chuang's family.
"Mr Chuang was engaged in financial services in his early years and made a tremendous contribution to the banking sector in Hong Kong. Having a record of dedicated public service, Mr Chuang worked devotedly for the stability and prosperity of Hong Kong. He also played an important role in the opening up of China's economy," Mr Tsang said.
"Mr Chuang was exemplary for his patriotism. During the most trying period of the motherland, Mr Chuang served with devotion and loyalty. He made valuable contributions to China, and to the well being of the Chinese community in Hong Kong as well as Hong Kong's stability and prosperity," Dr Ho said.
They expressed gratitude for Mr Chuang's contributions to Hong Kong.
Mr Chuang was a Hong Kong Deputy to the National People's Congress and a Standing Committee Member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. The Hong Kong Government awarded him the Grand Bauhinia Medal in 1997.
