Health, Welfare & Food Bureau has appointed Gabriella Wong, Lee Jark-pui and Ng Sze-fuk to the Committee on Financial Assistance for Family Members of those who Sacrifice their Lives to Save Others for a two-year term with effect from February 11.
It also re-appointed Poon Siu-ping.
Gabriella Wong is the Hong Kong Children and Youth Services' Agency Director. She is also serving on boards and committees relating to social welfare.
Lee Jark-pui has extensive public service experience and has served on different boards and advisory bodies. Ng Sze-fuk, who also has rich experience in public service, is the Sai Kung District Council Chairman.
Secretary for Health, Welfare & Food Dr York Chow welcomed the appointments. He looked forward to their contribution to the committee.
Dr Chow also thanked the outgoing members, Justina Leung and Chau How-chen, for their contribution to the work of the committee during their term of appointment.
The committee serves as the approving authority to assess and determine applications under the financial assistance scheme to family members of an individual who dies as a result of trying to save or protect others.
The scheme represents the Government's recognition of the honourable sacrifice of the deceased individual and assistance to alleviate the financial hardship that the surviving family members may face as a consequence of the heroic act.
