All members of the Council for Sustainable Development have been re-appointed for two years with effect from March 1. Its membership represents a balanced mix of stakeholders from different sectors.
The council, chaired by the Chief Secretary with Edgar Cheng as vice-chairman, comprises Lily Chiang, Choy So-yuk, Barrie Cook, Christine Fang, Hans Michael Jebsen, Thomas Kwok, Michael Lai, Lam Kin-che, Otto Poon, Tai Hay-lap and Tsui Lap-chee.
Four policy secretaries - those from Economic Development & Labour; Environment, Transport & Works; Health, Welfare & Food; and Housing, Planning & Lands - are also council members.
The council advises the Government on priority areas for promoting sustainable development and on the preparation of sustainable development strategies that integrate economic, social and environmental perspectives.
It also boosts community participation in the promotion of sustainable development in Hong Kong and arouses public awareness and understanding of the principles of sustainable development.
The council has implemented two forums to involve the community in formulating the sustainable development strategies for Hong Kong. It has also advised on the disbursement of the Sustainable Development Fund to support community projects aimed at raising public awareness of sustainability issues. More details about the fund are available here.
The council will continue to promote these initiatives, in partnership with other organisations in the community. To learn more about the council, click here.
