More gov't units switch to 5-day week
*

More Government units will switch to a five-day week from January 1 when the Government launches phase two of its five-day week scheme.

Units joining the scheme this phase include the Companies Registry, some Department of Health offices and the Education & Manpower Bureau.

Some offices in the Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department, Department of Justice, Electrical & Mechanical Services Department, Labour Department, Legal Aid Department, Marine Department, Social Welfare Department, Transport Department and Water Supplies Department will also switch to a five-day week.

Offices that close on Saturdays will extend their opening hours on weekdays. Alternative means of service delivery such as Internet services, drop-in boxes and alternative payment channels are made available or enhanced.

The Civil & Service Bureau reiterated that government services' overall level and efficiency will be maintained. Emergency and essential services are not affected. Services involving law and order and rescue services will continue to be provided around the clock.
