Nominations for the indigenous inhabitant representative and the resident representative elections in the 2007 Village Representative Elections will be held from November 23 to December 6.
For the indigenous inhabitant representative elections, a candidate must be an indigenous inhabitant as well as an elector for the indigenous village/composite indigenous village and ordinarily reside in Hong Kong.
A candidate for the resident representative elections must be a resident of the existing village and have resided there for six years immediately preceding the nomination. He or she must also be an elector from the village.
Candidates of both categories must be permanent Hong Kong residents aged 21 or above. No one is allowed to stand as a candidate in more than one village. Each candidate must be nominated by at least five electors from that village. Each voter may nominate no more than the total number of village representatives for the respective village.
Nominations close December 6
Nomination forms must be submitted in person to the returning officers, who are the district officers for the respective villages, between 9am and 5pm from Mondays to Fridays and from 9am to noon on Saturdays, by December 6, except public holidays.
A Gazette notice on validly nominated candidates will be published within 14 days after the nomination period. Each validly nominated candidate will be informed separately.
