The Chief Executive has reappointed Edward Ho and Chung Shui-ming, and appointed Joanne Chan, Chen Qing and Michelle Ong Cheung to Philharmonic Society Board of Governors for two years.

The society announced today it has adopted a new governance structure aimed at providing long-term stability and strategic direction for Hong Kong's flagship orchestra.

Since its establishment as a professional ensemble in 1973, the society has been governed by a two-tiered structure comprising a board of governors and a general committee. The term of office of the general committee, with full responsibility for overseeing the management of the orchestra, was one year, leaving open the possibility of major changes in membership from one year to the next.

The two bodies are combined under the new governance structure into a single board of governors responsible for the orchestra's overall management and direction.

Under the new structure, there will be up to 20 members and their two-year terms will be set up to overlap, thereby reducing the potential for major change in membership at the end of any term. Except for a maximum of six members appointed by the Government, board members will be elected from amongst the society's voting members. More details about the Philharmonic Society's new board of governors are available here.
