Pragmatism resolves political differences: CE
*
Donald Tsang
Practical approach: Chief Executive Donald Tsang says pragmatism is a defining characteristic of Hong Kong people, who have worked industriously together to forge an economic miracle.

When it comes to constitutional reform, Hong Kong can assume a pragmatic and down-to-earth attitude to resolve difficult issues, Chief Executive Donald Tsang says.

Speaking on a radio show today, Mr Tsang said pragmatism is a defining characteristic of Hong Kong people, who have worked industriously together to forge an economic miracle.

"That is why I am confident that all political differences can be resolved as long as we maintain a pragmatic approach," he said.

From a long career in the civil service, he said he has learned the ability to resolve issues, which with administrative skills, tenacity and commitment are essential elements of pragmatic politics.

He also referred to the father of the European Union, Jean Monnet, whose pragmatic approach helped unite Europe.
