Drainage Services Department

Director of Drainage Services Wong Chee-keung has launched an inquiry into the deaths of two workers who collapsed in a Sha Tin manhole today.

The men, both 46, were hired by a contractor to conduct drainage maintenance. They were found unconscious in the Yuen Wo Street manhole about 9.30am. Fire Services Officers pulled them out and attempted to revive them. The men were sent to Prince of Wales Hospital where they were certified dead.

Mr Wong said he is highly concerned about the incident and has ordered a probe. He expressed his condolences to the workers' families.
