Both the Hong Kong and Central Governments are fully committed to promoting constitutional development in accordance with the Basic Law, with a view to achieving the ultimate aim of universal suffrage, the Constitutional Affairs Bureau says.
Through discussions in the Commission on Strategic Development, possible models for implementing universal suffrage for selecting the Chief Executive and the Legislative Council are being explored. Discussions are expected to be concluded by early next year.
The commission's report will be made public and the conclusions will be reflected to the Central Government.
Both the Hong Kong and Central Governments are aware of the community's aspirations for universal suffrage, which is shared by all parties concerned.
