Chief Executive Donald Tsang has extended his condolences to the victims of the Indonesian earthquake and their families.

In a telephone conversation with the Indonesian President Dr Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono this morning, Mr Tsang said Hong Kong's aid agencies are ready to help. The Director of Administration will co-ordinate the Government's relief efforts in response to any request from Indonesia.

"On behalf of the Hong Kong community, I told the president that we are deeply grieved by the tragic loss of thousands of lives in Indonesia," Mr Tsang said.

"We have over 100,000 Indonesians living in Hong Kong. They are part of our Hong Kong family. I wish them well and want them to know that we are behind them in such a trying time."
