The Chief Executive has re-appointed Victor Fung as the Greater Pearl River Delta Business Council Chairman for two years from March 1. Another 31 members have also been named, with seven new appointees.
The new appointees are Edgar Cheng, Ian Fok, Peter Hung, David Lie-A-Cheong, Tai Tak-fung, Peter Wong and Marjorie Yang. Their profile cuts across different sectors and their immense experience in the business sector will strengthen the council's work.
The council offers a forum for constructive exchange of information and ideas between Hong Kong and Guangdong on how to broaden the scope of economic co-operation between the two places. It also complements the government-to-government framework of the Hong Kong-Guangdong Co-operation Joint Conference to foster closer ties.
The council helps relay views and suggestions from Hong Kong's business sector on ways to promote co-operation with Guangdong. Activities have also been launched in collaboration with private sector organisations in Guangdong to improve air quality in the Greater Pearl River Delta Region and to encourage Guangdong enterprises to set up business here.
The council will contribute to Hong Kong-Guangdong co-operation and the region's future development.
