Premier Wen meets Donald Tsang
Unity call: Premier Wen Jiabao called on the Hong Kong community to join hands and focus on developing the city's economy.

Hong Kong's economic and social development has been on a good track, but there are some contradictions that must be tackled, Premier Wen Jiabao says. In a meeting with Chief Executive Donald Tsang, he called on the community to join hands and focus on developing the city's economy.

Mr Tsang briefed Premier Wen on the latest social, economic and political developments in Hong Kong at a meeting in Beijing this morning.

Premier Wen stressed the Central Government will continue to fully support the Hong Kong SAR Government to rule according to law. It will adopt all necessary measures to strengthen its interaction and cooperation with the territory in economic and other areas.

On political development, Premier Wen said it has always been the Central Government's stance to help develop democracy in Hong Kong. He added this has to be done in a healthy way, steadily and gradually, to benefit Hong Kong people.

He pointed out the Central Government's support for the territory's economic development would not change.

The Premier also praised Mr Tsang for his hard work, stable and pragmatic governance in leading the SAR Government in the past six months, which has achieved good results in enhancing the territory's economic prosperity as well as social stability and harmony.
