New statistics chief named

Fung Hing Wang

New chief: Fung Hing-wang will be Commissioner for Census & Statistics from August 11.

Deputy Commissioner for Census & Statistics Fung Hing-wang will succeed the retiring Frederick Ho as commissioner from August 11.

 

Mr Fung has 30 years in the department, gaining extensive experience in census and statistics work, administration and leadership.

 

Secretary for the Civil Service Joseph Wong said: "I am confident he will lead the department to meet the challenges ahead and enhance the effective service of the department."

 

Mr Wong thanked Mr Ho for his dedicated and meritorious service in the Government for more than 38 years.

 

Biographies

Mr Fung, 54, first joined the Government in the Statistician Grade in 1974. He was promoted to Senior Statistician in 1981, to Assistant Commissioner for Census & Statistics in 1988 and to Deputy Commissioner in 1996.

 

Mr Ho, 59, joined the Government in the Education Officer Grade in 1966 and was transferred to Statistician Grade in 1972. He was promoted to Senior Statistician in 1977, Assistant Commissioner for Census & Statistics in 1981 and to Deputy Commissioner in 1989. He has been Commissioner since 1992.
