Marine security course opens

Marine Department

Twenty-one trainees from around the region are taking part in the third maritime security Train-the-Trainer course jointly held by the International Maritime Organisation and the Marine Department.

Trainees from Malaysia, Brunei, Japan, Indonesia, the Philippines, Macau and Hong Kong are attending the course, which started today, headed by seven lecturers from Australia, South Korea, the Mainland and Hong Kong.

The programme is to help governments strengthen and enhance their implementation of maritime security measures relating to the International Ship & Port Facilities Code, which came into force last July.

After the week-long course the trainees will conduct their own classes in their homelands.
