Seven new members have been appointed to the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education, while Chairman Daniel Heung and six others have been re-appointed for two-year terms from April 1.

The new members are Rock Chen, Judy Chen, Chua Hoi Wai, Daniel Kwok, Julia Lam, Vivian Yu and Yuen Lan-fong.

Re-appointed members are Carmen Chan, Chan Tak-ming, Ko Chi-sum, Lam Pui-tak, Dr Pang King-chee and Samuel Yung. However, member Anna Kwong was re-appointed for six months to complete work on the Community Participation Scheme, which seeks to provide financial sponsorship for non-governmental organisations to conduct civic education projects at district level.

The committee is a non-statutory advisory body tasked with the promotion of civic education outside schools through a range of publicity and educational programmes.

It commissions research studies on different aspects of civic education, works in partnership with other non-governmental organisations on specific promotion projects, and operates funding schemes to sponsor non-governmental organisations in carrying out civic education projects.
