Wong Po-yan has been appointed chairman of the new Independent Commission on the Remuneration Package & Post-office Arrangements for the Chief Executive.
The Constitutional Affairs Bureau said other members are Vincent Cheng, Dr Thomas Leung and Professor Liu Pak-wai. The appointments are for one year starting today.
The commission is tasked to consider and make recommendations on whether:
* the remuneration package for the CE should be redesigned so it is commensurate with their responsibilities and status;
* rules should be drawn up and applicable to a former CE in respect of their participation in political or commercial or professional activities after leaving office; and,
* provisions should be made for a former CE in respect of personal security, office accommodation and administrative support, as well as medical and dental care for them and their spouse.
The commission will submit its recommendations to the Government in two months. Secretary for Constitutional Affairs Stephen Lam thanked the chairman and members for taking on this important task, and pledged to work closely with them to accomplish its tasks in a timely manner.
