The Central Government has fully recognised the work done by Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa and the Special Administrative Region Government, President Hu Jintao says.
He noted Mr Tung's seven years' experience in governing Hong Kong and implementing 'one country, two systems' will be conducive to the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference's work.
Mr Tung met President Hu in Beijing today and briefed him on Hong Kong's latest developments.
Mr Tung said the city's economy has been picking up quickly and recovering fully. Moreover, the jobless rate keeps falling, and the problems of negative equity and deflation are easing.
Mr Tung expected economic growth to exceed the estimated 7.5%, to reach 8% or higher.
At the meeting, President Hu said the Hong Kong Government headed by Mr Tung has united Hong Kong people, has seriously implemented "one country, two systems" and the Basic Law.
HK has overcome difficulties, challenges
The Hong Kong Government has also overcome difficulties and challenges brought about by the Asian financial crisis and the ever-changing international economic environment, handled a series of major political, economic and social problems and maintained Hong Kong's stability and prosperity
President Hu noted Mr Tung and the Hong KongGovernment have done a great pioneering job in the successful implementation of "one country, two systems" and made important contributions.
He also congratulated Mr Tung on his appointment as a CPPCC member.
President Hu reiterated 'one country, two systems', 'Hong Kong people governing Hong Kong' and a high degree of autonomy will be firmly implemented, adding the Hong Kong issue will be dealt with strictly in accordance with the Basic Law.
He also called on Hong Kong people to be more united to build Hong Kong into a better place.
