Democrats' Beijing visit a positive move
*

Exchange between Central Authorities and Hong Kong's political parties is being boosted by the Government, with several members of the pan-democratic camp being invited to join the Mainland's 55th anniversary celebrations in Beijing.

This was the message today from Secretary for Constitutional Affairs Stephen Lam, adding that such a positive move will promote communication and help deal with contentious issues.

Mr Lam said Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa, principal officials and representatives from different sectors have also been invited to Beijing.

On lawmakers making oaths, Mr Lam said the Basic Law has very clear provisions and so does the Oaths & Declarations Ordinance.

All principal officials and legislators, in taking office, should make their oaths in accordance with the Basic Law and the relevant legislation.
