Professional service: Dr Ting Tai-lun has been appointed Government Chemist with effect from July 1.

Dr Ting Tai-lun has been appointed as Government Chemist with effect from July 1, replacing Dr David George Clarke who is retiring.

Secretary for the Civil Service Joseph Wong said Dr Ting possesses sound professional skills, solid experience in the work of the Government Laboratory and proven administrative abilities.

"I am confident that Dr Ting will lead the Government Laboratory in further enhancing the provision of professional and quality service," Mr Wong said.

He also thanked Dr Clarke for his 27 years of loyal and dedicated service.

"Under Dr Clarke's leadership, the Government Laboratory has provided our community with quality analytical, forensic and advisory services. I wish him a happy retirement."

Biographies:

Dr Ting Tai-lun, aged 53, first joined the Government as an Environmental Protection Officer in August, 1980. He was appointed as a Chemist in November, 1981. He was promoted to Senior Chemist in July, 1990, to Chief Chemist in August, 1998 and to Assistant Government Chemist in October, 2001.

Dr David George Clarke, aged 56, first joined the Government as a chemist in November, 1976. He rose through the ranks to Senior Chemist in May, 1982, to Chief Chemist in August, 1994 and to Assistant Government Chemist in November, 1996. He was promoted to Government Chemist in May, 2001.
