The Chief Executive-in-Council has specified October 1 this year as the commencement date for the Legislative Council's third term of office. The second-term LegCo will end on September 30.

This is made in accordance with Section 4 of the Legislative Council Ordinance.

Section 4(5) of the ordinance stipulates that the commencement date of each term of office of Legislative Council must be within 30 days after the date on which the results of the general election to elect the members for the relevant term of office are declared.

The general elections for the third term are scheduled for September 12. On current plans, the election results will be declared on September 13. Hence, the latest commencement date of the third term is October 12.

A notice of the commencement date will be gazetted on June 18.
