Enhanced co-operation: Shenzhen mayor Li Hongzhong will pay a four-day visit to Hong Kong from June 16.

Shenzhen mayor Li Hongzhong will arrive in Hong Kong Wednesday for a four-day visit at the invitation of Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa.

 

This will be the Mayor's first official visit to Hong Kong.

 

Mr Li will meet Mr Tung and attend a dinner at Government House on Wednesday.

 

Leading a 22-strong delegation, Mr Li will meet Chief Secretary Donald Tsang and other senior officials on June 17 to take forward co-operation between the two places under the framework of the Hong Kong/Guangdong Co-operation Joint Conference.

 

To take advantage of the opportunities provided by the Mainland/Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement and the introduction of the Pan-Pearl River Delta regional co-operation strategy, closer Shenzhen/Hong Kong co-operation will more effectively promote the economic development in the whole region. 

 

Joint development leads to win-win situation

In this way, the Government said, the goals of resource integration and complementary strengths can be achieved. A win-win situation could be created through joint development, it added.

 

Other members of the Shenzhen Municipal Government delegation will include Executive Vice-mayor Xu Zongheng; vice-mayors Zhuo Qinrui, Liu Yingli and Chen Yingchun. 

 

Before returning to Shenzhen on June 19, the delegation will visit Hong Kong Exchanges & Clearing Limited, Hong Kong International Airport, Hong Kong University of Science & Technology, Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corporation, and Island West Refuse Transfer Station.
