voter registration concert
Exercise your right: Secretary for Constitutional Affairs Stephen Lam (second from right) officiates at the opening of a Canto-pop concert to call on voters to register or update their addresses at Shatin New Town Plaza.

More than 130,000 people have registered to vote during the first 20 days of a voter-registration campaign, 70% more than the number who signed up during last year's campaign, Secretary for Constitutional Affairs Stephen Lam says.

Attending a voter-registration campaign concert in Shatin today, Mr Lam credited the joint efforts of the Government and different community groups for the good result.

"We shall continue to apply ourselves fully in the coming weeks to make sure that the voter-registration exercise is a success," he said.

At today's concert, Mr Lam and popular artistes Nancy Sit, Eason Chan and Woo Fung led about 1,000 people in the audience to reel off the Government's 2004 Voter Registration Campaign slogans.

Registration closes on May 16

They also reminded the audience that if eligible voters wanted to vote in the Legislative Council election in September, they must register as an elector on or before May 16.

Registered electors who have moved should inform the Registration & Electoral Office to update their address records on or before June 29.

Mr Lam also called on registered electors to cast vote in the LegCo election to be held on September 12.
