Village by-election nomination to start

*
Home Affairs Department

The two-week candidate nomination period for the Village Representative By-elections will start on February 21. Those who wish to stand in the elections have to submit nomination forms in person to their village's district office by 5pm on March 5.

The elections are to fill 90 indigenous inhabitant representative and resident representative vacancies. A candidate running for an indigenous inhabitant representative post must be a registered voter and an indigenous inhabitant of the village ordinarily residing in Hong Kong.

Eligibility requirements for candidates in the resident representative by-elections include being a registered voter and resident of the village and having been a resident there for the six years immediately preceding the nomination.

All candidates have to be nominated by at least five registered electors from their village.  Each candidate is allowed to stand in one village only. If there is more than one validly nominated candidate for the same village, a poll will be conducted for that village on March 28.

Nomination forms are available at district offices or the Home Affairs Department headquarters, 30th floor, Southorn Centre, 130 Hennessy Road, Wan Chai.

Enquiries can be made at 2152 1521. For the list of villages covered by the by-elections, click here.
