Constitutional discussion requires tolerance: CS
*

Public views on our constitutional development will be considered carefully by the Government, Chief Secretary for Administration Donald Tsang says, adding that people should not reject or speculate on others' views during the discussion.

Mr Tsang said his Task Force on Constitutional Development has started consulting the public and different groups, and he urged people to discuss the issue calmly, deeply and objectively.

He promised to relay the views received to the Central Government and will keep citizens, lawmakers and the media well informed.

Stressing that constitutional development is a complicated issue, Mr Tsang said we should not avoid discussion on matters of principles and procedures under the Basic Law concerning our constitutional development.

The paper issued by the Government on Wednesday outlined the principles and key issues involved in political development, Mr Tsang said, adding that what has been outlined in it does not represent the Government's nor the Central Government's stance.
