Graft buster: New ICAC Commissioner Raymond Wong says he will work hard to ensure Hong Kong remains open and free.

New Independent Commission Against Corruption Commissioner Raymond Wong said he will work hard to ensure Hong Kong remains open and free.

Briefing the media after his appointment was announced today, Mr Wong said the ICAC has worked hard to hinder corruption in Hong Kong, and he vowed to continue the fight.

"One of the cornerstones for Hong Kong's success is a clean society. And we did not achieve this fortuitously. Other than the support of the public, the efforts put in by the 1,000 or so ICAC staff cannot be ignored," Mr Wong said.

"For me to become the chief of the ICAC, I am very honoured and I will do my best to act in accordance with the law and act impartially to do a good job to make sure Hong Kong remains an open and free society. It is a very challenging and meaningful task."

Mr Wong said he will also work to ensure good communication with relevant Government departments, particularly the Police.

"Earlier the Police and ICAC did have some room for improvement in terms of a harmonious relationship. [However], things have improved a lot. The relationship between the ICAC and Police has been very smooth. They each have their own job, but the most important thing is sufficient communication."
