The two-week nomination period for the by-election in the Lai Kok Constituency of Sham Shui Po District Council will run from June 20 until July 3.

The Registration & Electoral Office said the by-election has been called to fill a seat that became vacant in mid-May after incumbent member Wong Chung-ki was disqualified from holding office.

The office also noted that if there is more than one validly nominated candidate, a poll will be held on Sunday, August 3.

Any registered geographical constituency electors aged 21 and above who have ordinarily resided in Hong Kong for the three years immediately before nomination may contest the by-election

A nominee must have 10 registered voters of the constituency sign his nomination form. Each voter is allowed to support only one nominee.

The nominated candidates must apply in person to the returning officer during business hours within the nomination period, to submit the completed nomination forms and the election deposit of $3,000.

The Sham Shui Po District Officer has been appointed as the returning officer.

Details of the by-election, the appointment of the returning officer and the assistant returning officer, and the appointment of the Nominations Advisory Committee were announced in the Government Gazette today.
