Bun scrambling entries to open
Applications for the Cheung Chau Bun Scrambling Competition will be accepted from February 17 to 28, the Leisure & Cultural Services Department announced today.
Physically-fit adults are welcome to apply to participate in the event, with the final being scheduled to take place on May 5, from 11.30pm to 12.45am, at Pak Tai Temple Playground on Cheung Chau.
The event involves competitors scaling bamboo towers and attempting to snatch buns attached to them. Numbers are restricted to twelve competitors on a tower at one time. Compulsory safety training for entrants will be provided on April 6.
The maximum number of entrants is 200. Twenty-four contestants – comprising at least six women – will progress to a semi-final stage on April 13 in order to compete for a place in the final. The 12 finalists will comprise at least three women.
Anyone interested in participating should complete user registration and identity authentication, and submit their electronic ballot applications, between February 17 and 28 via the SmartPLAY website, mobile app or Smart Self-service Stations.
