Public invited to design estate spaces
The Government today invited students and young designers to join a design competition aimed at building an inclusive public space that promotes well-being at Chak On Estate, Sham Shui Po.
Launched by the Housing Bureau and the Housing Authority, the competition aims to promote the “Well-being design” guide, unveiled last September as a reference for the construction of new public housing estates and improvement works at existing estates.
The competition covers four public spaces: Chak On Plaza - Estate Stage; Communal space - Cultural & Recreational Room; Estate landmark - Sunset Plaza; and Intergeneration Fitness Playscape.
Full-time students from design-related disciplines at tertiary institutions in Hong Kong can enter the competition in the “students” category, while young full-time designers can submit their entries in the “emerging” category.
The competition will facilitate direct interaction between residents and participants, enabling designers to gain an understanding of residents’ views and needs.
There will be one winner, one first runner-up and three honourable mentions for each category. Residents will also vote for the Residents’ Most Beloved Award.
The competition is divided into the first round and the final round. Results will be announced in May at the earliest. The winning proposals will be considered as a reference for future estate improvement plans.
Interested parties should register for the competition by January 31. They are also welcome to join an online briefing session on January 15.
