Secretary for Environment & Ecology Tse Chin-wan (centre) officiates at the ceremony.

The Environmental Campaign Committee (ECC) today held a "continuation ceremony" for Carbon Reduction Action (CRA), part of its Carbon Neutrality Publicity Campaign, which aims to involve the public in Hong Kong's efforts to reduce its carbon footprint.

Officiating at the ceremony, Secretary for Environment & Ecology Tse Chin-wan said the campaign, launched by the ECC in 2022, has raised public awareness of carbon reduction.

Rolled out in November last year, CRA encourages the public to carbon reduction awareness into action through changing their daily habits.

Mr Tse highlighted that in addition to active participation from citizens, the campaign has received strong support from nearly 150 collaborating partners. These include a range of public and business organisations, non-profit organisations, and school sponsoring bodies.

He said some organisations have committed to adopting innovative and sustainable carbon reduction measures in their operations, thereby contributing positively to Hong Kong's goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

Looking ahead, Mr Tse said he hopes that people will persevere and continue to integrate carbon reduction actions in their daily lives.

The environment chief commended 17 key strategic CRA partners for their planned actions, including the introduction of energy-saving initiatives, smart food-waste processing systems, and green transport, and the promotion of carbon reduction education.

The ceremony was attended by about 300 individuals, including representatives from various corporate partners, student members of the Ocean Park Conservation Alliance's Seahorse Rangers and the ECC's Student Environmental Protection Ambassadors.
