The Development Bureau tody launched a two-month consultation on proposals to amend the Buildings Ordinance, with a target of introducing an amendment bill in the first half of 2026.

The proposed amendments cover three aspects, namely expediting building inspections and repairs, rationalising the handling of unauthorised building works, and enhancing construction safety.

The bureau briefed the Legislative Council’s Development Panel in mid-December on the proposals, and the panel's members generally agreed with the changes. It will arrange briefing sessions for stakeholders in order to gather views.

Views can be posted to the Development Bureau (Planning and Lands Branch) at 17/F, West Wing, Central Government Offices, 2 Tim Mei Avenue, by email, or via online form, on or before February 28, 2025.
