Govt makes 3 senior appointments
The Government today announced the appointments of three senior officials.
Director of Social Welfare Charmaine Lee will take up the post of Permanent Secretary for Housing/Director of Housing on February 4.
Deputy Secretary for Education Edward To will assume the post of Director of Social Welfare on February 3.
Finally, Deputy Secretary for Security Priscilla To will become Director of Home Affairs on February 3. She will succeed Alice Cheung, who will commence pre-retirement leave at the end of January.
Secretary for the Civil Service Ingrid Yeung said: “The appointees are seasoned Administrative Officers with proven leadership and management skills. I have every confidence that they will continue to serve the community with professionalism in their new capacity.”
On the retirement of Mrs Cheung, who has rendered 38 years of service, the civil service chief highlighted that during her tenure as Director of Home Affairs Mrs Cheung played an instrumental role in rebuilding the community following the COVID-19 pandemic and also in improving governance at the district level.
“Under her leadership, the Home Affairs Department successfully implemented the improved district governance system, whereby District Councils were reformed, a high-level district governance structure was instituted, and District Services & Community Care Teams were set up to better serve the needs of the community.
“I wish her a fulfilling and happy retirement.”
