Rescue underway for stranded whale
The Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department has activated a response plan to rescue a whale stranded in Tai O waters.
The department explained that it received a report from Police this afternoon regarding a live cetacean stranded in Yi O waters on Lantau Island. By nightfall, the department and the Ocean Park Conservation Foundation personnel located the whale stranded in Tai O waters.
According to the initial assessment, the whale, about five to six metres in length, was found with a wound on its body.
The department stated that it immediately activated the Response Plan to the Sighting of non-resident Cetaceans in Hong Kong Waters and has conducted inspections of the waters in the vicinity together with relevant departments and the foundation personnel.
Additionally, it is is currently working with experts from the foundation to assess the whale's physical condition and take appropriate rescue measures.
The department urges the public and vessels to stay away from the whale to avoid causing any danger to the marine mammal.
