CE meets top legal official
Chief Executive John Lee today met Deputy Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and First Deputy Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate Tong Jianming at Government House to discuss issues of mutual concern.
Welcoming Mr Tong's visit to Hong Kong with a delegation to attend the 11th Asia & Pacific Regional Conference of the International Association of Prosecutors, Mr Lee said that with the support of the central government, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region is hosting the conference again after having done so since 2004.
The event provides a platform for prosecutors and legal professionals from various countries and regions to share experiences on topics such as combating technology crime and prosecuting related cases in the technological age, he added.
Mr Lee said Hong Kong attaches great importance to strengthening collaboration with various jurisdictions to combat crime, and highlighted the Department of Justice’s commitment to maintaining close collaboration with prosecutors of other jurisdictions and initiating new measures to tackle crime, ensuring the effectiveness of prosecution.
The Chief Executive also expressed gratitude to the central government for giving Hong Kong the opportunity to host the 15th China-ASEAN Prosecutors-General Conference next year, showcasing the city’s unique position and advantages under "one country, two systems".
Mr Lee noted that the Hong Kong SAR Government will consolidate the city's status as a centre for international legal and dispute resolution services in the Asia-Pacific region, deepen legal co-operation with the Mainland and contribute to the high-quality development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
