Contractor suspended from bidding

October 14, 2024

The Development Bureau has suspended the contractor involved in a fatal industrial incident at a construction site in Ho Man Tin yesterday from tendering for public works contracts.

The bureau highlighted that the contractor concerned was on the List of Approved Contractors for Public Works.

Besides notifying the contractor of its suspension from tendering for public works contracts in the buildings category, with immediate effect, the bureau has ordered it to undergo an independent safety audit.

The contractor is required to take heed of the audit’s findings, submit an improvement action plan, and implement measures to demonstrate that it has an effective safety management system in place, before removal of the suspension may be considered.

The suspension applies not only to future tender exercises, but also those in which procedures have been initiated but not concluded.

Meanwhile, the Labour Department is investigating the industrial incident and will handle it in accordance with the law.

Subject to the findings of the investigation, the bureau will impose further regulatory actions on the contractor concerned.
