The Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department sets up an educational booth to raise public awareness on the negative impact of feeding wild animals and feral pigeons.

The Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department (AFCD) has stepped up enforcement to combat illegal feeding of wild animals and feral pigeons, with 39 fixed penalty notices issued over the past two months.

The newly amended Wild Animals Protection Ordinance, which expands the prohibition on feeding wild animals to cover feral pigeons, came into operation on August 1.

Between August 1 and yesterday, the AFCD and relevant departments issued fixed penalty notices at various locations including those with previous records of illegal feeding activities, such as Yuen Long Nullah, the vicinity of MTR Hang Hau Station, Kam Shan Country Park and Lion Rock Country Park.

Out of the 39 offenders who engaged in illegal feeding, 19 of the fixed penalty notices issued involve feeding monkeys, 16 include feeding feral pigeons or wild birds and four are for feeding wild pigs.

Members of the public may report any suspected illegal feeding activities by calling 1823.
