September 19, 2024

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 3% for the period between June and August, unchanged from the May-to-July figure, the Census & Statistics Department announced today.

The underemployment rate also remained unchanged, at 1.2%.

Total employment from June to August was 3,708,500, about the same as that from May to July, while the labour force grew by around 4,400 to 3,830,800.

The number of unemployed people increased by around 4,500 to 122,300. Meanwhile, the number of underemployed people stood at 47,500.

Secretary for Labour & Welfare Chris Sun said the overall labour market should remain tight in the near term amid continued economic growth, although the employment situation in some sectors may come under pressure as firms continue to face challenges.
