Secretary for Culture, Sports & Tourism Kevin Yeung attended the World Conference on Tourism Cooperation & Development 2024 in Beijing today.

Mr Yeung witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Hong Kong Tourism Board and the World Tourism Cities Federation (WTCF) in the nation’s capital on co-hosting the WTCF Fragrant Hills Tourism Summit in Hong Kong in April 2025.

He then met Beijing Municipality Vice Mayor and WTCF Council Executive Vice-Chair Sima Hong for a brief discussion on Hong Kong and Beijing's culture, tourism and industry development.

Mr Yeung outlined Hong Kong's tourism developments and a proposal on an upcoming cultural and tourism collaboration with Beijing, to enhance the integration of culture and tourism in line with the country's development strategies for achieving the objective of becoming an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchanges under the National 14th Five-Year Plan.

The culture chief earlier visited a Beijing hutong to gain first-hand experience of a city-walk and for a glimpse into the capital's culture and history as well as learn how the local government promotes relevant programmes.

He began his Beijing trip yesterday by calling on the General Administration of Sport of China and briefing its Director Gao Zhidan on Hong Kong's preparation for the 15th National Games.

Mr Yeung pointed out that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government will spare no effort in maintaining close liaison with Guangdong and Macau to co-host the Games.

He will return to Hong Kong tomorrow.
