Secretary for Health Prof Lo Chung-mau today met a delegation from the National Health Commission (NHC) for Science & Technology Exchange, led by the NHC’s Department of Health Science, Technology & Education Supervisor Zheng Zhongwei.

The two sides held in-depth discussions on deepening co-operation on health and medical innovation between the Mainland and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Prof Lo said that subsequent to the 19th Joint Meeting of Senior Health Officials of the Mainland, Hong Kong and Macau – which was held in Dunhuang, Gansu, on August 29 – today’s meeting offered another opportunity for discussions on developing Hong Kong into the country’s international health and medical innovation hub.

He emphasised that health and medical innovation not only introduces good drugs and brings the benefit of research and development to patients, but also fosters innovation and technology transformation.

He added that the Hong Kong SAR Government will work strenuously to undertake medical and healthcare reforms through innovation, as stipulated in the Resolution of the CPC Central Committee on Further Deepening Reform Comprehensively to Advance Chinese Modernization.

While integrating into the nation’s development, Prof Lo stressed, the Hong Kong SAR will capitalise on its unique advantages to the fullest to become an international health and medical innovation hub, including through supporting the development of innovative medical technologies that can go global and attract foreign investment.
