P1 applications to open

August 29, 2024

Primary One Admission (POA) System application forms will be available from September 2, the Education Bureau announced today.

Hong Kong children born on or before December 31, 2019, are eligible to join the system, provided they have not yet attended a primary school or been allocated a Primary 1 place.

The forms, along with explanatory notes and information leaflets, are available at kindergartens and district offices, and at the bureau’s Regional Education Offices and School Places Allocation Section.

Alternatively, parents who have registered as POA e-platform users and bound their account to iAM Smart+ may submit applications and check on their results online.

At the discretionary places admission stage, parents can choose schools without being restricted to the school “net” in which their child resides. Parents who wish to apply for a POA discretionary place in a government or aided primary school should submit an application online from September 19 to 27.

For paper applications, parents should submit completed form directly to schools, during school office hours, between September 23 and 27.

The bureau stressed that only one application should be submitted for each child. If parents are found to have applied to more than one government or aided primary school, their applications will be rendered void.

Separately, if parents wish only to apply for the POA Central Allocation, they should hand in a completed form on or before January 17, 2025, to the bureau’s School Places Allocation Section at Podium Floor, West Block, Education Bureau, Kowloon Tong Education Services Centre, on Suffolk Road in Kowloon Tong.

From September 2, people can call 2891 0088 or click here for more information.

Meanwhile, also on September 2 the Committee on Home-School Co-operation will upload the e-version of its Primary School Profiles 2024 to its website, in English and Chinese, to help parents choose schools for their children.
