Sun Dong continues Beijing trip

Secretary for Innovation, Technology & Industry Prof Sun Dong called on Executive Deputy Director of the Hong Kong & Macao Affairs Office of the State Council Zhou Ji on the second day of his trip to Beijing.

 

Prof Sun first visited the National Development & Reform Commission to update its Secretary General Wu Hao on the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government's efforts to promote innovation and technology (I&T) and new industrialisation, as well as the latest work on the Hong Kong Park of the Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Co-operation Zone.

 

He noted that the Hong Kong SAR Government has preliminarily completed the drafting of the overarching document on the development of the Hong Kong Park, with the target of promulgating it within this year. Both sides also discussed key content of the overarching document.

 

Prof Sun then called on Mr Zhou, reporting to him about the discussion at meetings with the various ministries during this visit to Beijing as well as the work progress of promoting I&T and developing new industries by the Hong Kong SAR Government.

 

Prof Sun introduced to him the latest development of the Hong Kong Park. They discussed issues of giving full play to Hong Kong's strengths, the development of the city into an international I&T centre and serving the country's needs in reform and opening up.

 

Additionally, apart from attending the HICOOL 2024 Global Entrepreneur Summit Opening Ceremony and Global Entrepreneurship Competition Awards Ceremony, the technology chief took part in the summit dinner.

 

He engaged in exchanges with leaders of the Beijing Municipality and leading figures in the industry, entrepreneurs and investors in the capital during the summit.

 

Afterwards, Prof Sun toured the summit pavilion and visited a booth set up by Cyberport that showcased cutting-edge technology from five artificial intelligence and robotics technology enterprises under the digital technology flagship.

 

As part of the summit tour, he briefed Secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee Yin Li and Beijing Mayor Yin Yong on the development of Hong Kong’s I&T ecosystem and the building up of its high-quality talent base.

 

Prof Sun will return to Hong Kong tomorrow.
