Mainland Olympians to visit HK
The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government today announced that the 2024 Paris Olympic Games Mainland Olympians delegation will visit Hong Kong from August 29 to 31.
Chief Executive John Lee thanked the central government for arranging another visit of the Mainland Olympians, which he said fully demonstrates its care for Hong Kong, as well as the General Administration of Sport of China and the State Council Hong Kong & Macao Affairs Office for their efforts and arrangements in this regard, enabling the public in Hong Kong to meet the national athletes in person.
Mr Lee lauded the national team athletes, who with their spirit of perseverance and high level of skills, achieved breakthroughs in a number of sports in this year's Paris Olympic Games, adding that the national team achieved its best performance abroad since it comprehensively participated in the 1984 Summer Olympics.
“We are extremely proud to have witnessed China's competitive sports continue to scale new heights, and to demonstrate to the world the power of Chinese-style modernisation.”
He noted that the visits of the national team athletes to Hong Kong in the past have always brought a joyful and festive atmosphere to the community.
“We are looking forward to the delegation's visit to share with Hong Kong people their journey of perseverance and success, and to promote the spirit of Chinese sports.
“Hong Kong people will be able to share the national team's joy and triumphs, thereby strengthening their patriotic passion and national spirit, especially among the youngsters.”
The delegation will start its three-day visit upon arrival by attending a welcome reception and banquet hosted by the Hong Kong SAR Government, and visiting the Hong Kong Sports Institute for an exchange with Hong Kong athletes.
Members of the delegation will attend three public events, including the Mainland Olympians Gala Show at Queen Elizabeth Stadium on the evening of August 30, as well as Sports Demonstrations by Mainland Olympians at Queen Elizabeth Stadium and Victoria Park Swimming Pool on the morning of August 31.
The Leisure & Cultural Services Department announced that tickets for the gala show and the sports demonstrations will go on sale from August 22.
Tickets will be available for $20 each starting at 10am on August 22 via the Internet, mobile app and credit card telephone booking services of URBTIX. There will be no concessionary tickets and each person may purchase a maximum of two tickets at a time.
Real-name registration is required for ticket purchases. Each ticket holder must present proof of identity with a photo that matches the name on the ticket for verification upon entry.
There will be no ticket collection service at the venues on the event day. Ticket holders must collect their tickets at URBTIX outlets or from self-service ticketing kiosks on or before August 30.
Around 5,300 tickets for the gala show and the sports demonstrations are reserved for the public, including free tickets reserved for the underprivileged. Broadcasting arrangements will also be made for the events so that people can enjoy them at home.
The public should arrive early as it will take time to verify personal particulars of ticket holders under the real-name registration arrangement. The venues will open one hour before each show starts and there will be pre-shows for the audiences.
