Immersive HK exhibition opens in GZ

August 9, 2024

The "Immersive Hong Kong" roving exhibition, showcasing Hong Kong's new attractions, advantages and opportunities through interactive art technology, opened today in Guangzhou, where it will run until August 18.

Organised by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government's Information Services Department, this is the fourth stop for the exhibition, following its successful staging in three countries in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, namely Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia.

In Guangzhou, the exhibition is being held at OneLink Walk, a major shopping centre, and is co-organised by the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office in Guangdong.

The department explained that the exhibition, themed “Hong Kong – Where the World Looks Ahead”, invites visitors from the Greater Bay Area community to explore the unique potential for tourism, education, business and investment in Hong Kong. It added that visitors can immerse themselves in different virtual scenes that represent Hong Kong with a creative twist.

Hong Kong's multi-faceted appeal is brought alive in five thematic zones featuring multiple interactive art projections, light box installations and naked-eye 3D displays. The five zones are named “Financial Bridgehead”, “I&T Brain Bank”, “Blossoming Creativity”, “Diversity & Greenery” and “Buzzing Sports Action”.

In addition, visitors can marvel at Hong Kong's vibrant and colourful skyline, illustrated by Hong Kong artist Messy Desk (Jane Lee), at a photography corner in the venue.

Promotional videos about Hong Kong and digital panels providing information and insights from Mainland companies about their experiences in Hong Kong are also on display.

Speaking at the opening ceremony today, Director of Information Services Apollonia Liu said that as this year is the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, holding the exhibition for the first time on the Mainland is particularly meaningful, and allows Mainland visitors to learn about the Hong Kong SAR's latest developments.

With this year also marking the fifth anniversary of the promulgation of the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Guangzhou is a perfect venue for the exhibition, as both Hong Kong and Guangzhou are core cities of the bay area, she added.

Mrs Liu outlined that Hong Kong and Guangdong share common historic roots and origins, and have been working closely in promoting the development of the bay area, which has many opportunities to offer.

“We hope that through this exhibition, we can demonstrate, in a lively and interactive way, Hong Kong’s distinctive advantages of enjoying strong support of the motherland and being closely connected to the world.

“We also hope everyone will come to Hong Kong for tourism, study, business or investment, and make use of Hong Kong’s international platform to tap into overseas markets and develop their businesses.”

Mrs Liu also pointed out that, among the roving exhibition's thematic zones, “Buzzing Sports Action” has been newly added this year.

Noting that Hong Kong athletes have achieved remarkable results at the Paris Olympic Games, she highlighted that Hong Kong will be co-hosting the 15th National Games along with Guangdong and Macau next year, adding that the new thematic zone on sports serves as advance publicity for the event.
