Secretary for Labour & Welfare Chris Sun said today that he was deeply saddened by the tragic case of a mother and son found dead in Kwun Tong yesterday.

Speaking to reporters, he said that the Government has allocated resources over the years to provide support at various levels to the elderly and disabled, including residential care services and day care services. Moreover, it recently introduced a 24-hour designated hotline, 182 183, to support carers.

Mr Sun added that the Government this year launched the Pilot Scheme on Supporting Elderly & Carers in Southern District and Tsuen Wan, with District Services & Community Care Teams actively looking for at-risk elderly households in those districts.

“For those in need, we will provide them with services and they can make calls immediately,” he said. “We will seriously consider to extend such services to other districts.”
