Chief Executive John Lee and Guangdong Province Governor Wang Weizhong co-chaired the 24th Plenary of the Hong Kong/Guangdong Co-operation Joint Conference in Guangzhou.

The two governments made steady progress in various co-operation areas including jointly promoting the development of the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science & Technology Innovation Co-operation Zone.

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government is taking forward at full steam the development of the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation & Technology Park and will strengthen innovation and technology collaboration with other Mainland cities of the Greater Bay Area. 

Moreover, it will continue to adopt an industry-driven approach as its key planning axle for the development of Northern Metropolis, strengthening synergies with Shenzhen and other cities in the bay area.

The meeting also touched on jointly pursuing the dual carbon goal. The Hong Kong SAR Government made it clear that it will continue to actively foster co-operation and exchange on carbon neutrality within the bay area.

Mr Lee remarked that Guangdong has all along been the most important partner of Hong Kong in regional co-operation with the Mainland. 

He stressed that Hong Kong and Guangdong have a multi-disciplinary, in-depth and all-round co-operation relationship.

The Chief Executive added that the Hong Kong SAR Government will continue to maintain close liaison with the Guangdong Provincial Government, and deepen co-operation between both sides, as well as work hand in hand to promote high-level collaboration in and high-quality development of the bay area. 

The two sides penned six co-operation agreements covering the work on quality, testing and certification, food safety, agriculture, healthcare and more. 

Mr Lee also met the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee Secretary Huang Kunming after the joint conference.

Chief Executive John Lee and Guangdong Governor Wang Weizhong co-chaired the 24th Plenary of the Hong Kong/Guangdong Co-operation Joint Conference in Guangzhou today.

The governments of Guangdong and Hong Kong signed several pacts covering exchanges and co-operation in food safety, sustainable development of agriculture, the Elderly Health Care Voucher Greater Bay Area Pilot Scheme and related policy studies as well as an agreement on the exemption of Hong Kong Residents from participation in Basic Pension Insurance.

The meeting touched on the steady progress both governments have made in various co-operation areas such as innovation and technology, the Northern Metropolis, financial services, cross-boundary transport and logistics, joint pursuit of the "dual carbon" goal, healthcare, etc.

Mr Lee said that Hong Kong and Guangdong have a multi-disciplinary, in-depth and all-round co-operation relationship, noting that communication and exchanges between the two sides have become closer, exchange visits at different levels have become more frequent, and fruitful progress in various policy measures to strengthen inter-connectivity in the Greater Bay Area (GBA) has been achieved in the past year.

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government will maintain close liaison with the Guangdong Provincial Government, and under the spirit of complementarity and mutual benefits, deepen the bilateral co-operation and work hand in hand to promote high-level collaboration in and high-quality development of the GBA, he added.

The Chief Executive also met CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee Secretary Huang Kunming in Guangzhou.
