Chief Secretary Chan Kwok-ki will depart for Geneva, Switzerland, in the early hours of tomorrow to attend the plenary meeting of the UN Human Rights Council as Deputy Head of China's delegation.

He will be joined by representatives of the Constitutional & Mainland Affairs Bureau and the Department of Justice.

The review report on China of the Working Group on the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of the council will be discussed at the meeting. The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government officials will attend as members of China's delegation.

The working group held meetings in January to examine the fourth report submitted by China under the UPR mechanism, which includes a part concerning the Hong Kong SAR, and adopt the review report on China.

Mr Chan will return to Hong Kong on July 5. During his absence, Deputy Chief Secretary Cheuk Wing-hing will be Acting Chief Secretary.
