Farm scheme sees regulations eased

June 25, 2024

The Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department today announced the launch of the “Agri enJoy” Scheme, which enables farms engaged in commercial agricultural production to operate ancillary businesses and increase their income.

Farms participating in the scheme may run ancillary businesses that involve preparation of light meals using self-grown crops and non-flame cooking, “pick-your-own crops” activities and other on-farm activities, and on-farm sales of self-grown crops.

The on-farm activities include guided tours and farming experiences, as well as farming education workshops.

Relevant departments have reviewed the regulations and lifted restrictions to facilitate the sector’s development.

Under the revised Statutory Plans promulgated by the Town Planning Board, planning permission is not required for “Agri enJoy” farms to undertake ancillary activities directly related to commercial crop farming or aquaculture that are endorsed by the Director of Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation at sites permitted for “Agricultural Use”.

Additionally, the Food & Environmental Hygiene Department has drawn up a set of relaxed requirements for food business licences. These take into consideration the unique environments of farms without compromising food safety and environmental hygiene.
