Flower show opens Mar 15
Themed "Floral Joy Around Town", the Hong Kong Flower Show 2024 will be held at Victoria Park starting tomorrow until March 24, with an all-new light show that is scheduled to run three times every night.
During the Journey of Floral Shadows light show, which will be shown for about five minutes at 7.30pm, 8pm and 8.30pm each night, three-dimensional light sculptures will be projected onto the angelonia theme flower wall and the sea of tulips.
Apart from the 3D angelonia floral wall with four big pieces of giant angelonia models, swathes of angelonia will also appear in a parterre titled Angels in a Floral Sea, where visitors can take a good look at their uniquely petite flower shapes and enjoy the refreshing fragrance.
Running along the central axis of the showground from the Hing Fat Street entrance to the Sugar Street entrance are landscape displays themed around fairy tales, namely The Journey to the West, Arabian Myths, The Candy House, Jack & the Beanstalk, as well as The Wizard of Oz.
Hong Kong Flower Show 2024 Committee Chairperson Tina Tai said she hopes that the visitors will feel like they are in a wonderland surrounded by colourful floral displays.
Among such displays, The Wizard of Oz features the iconic rainbow mountain from the story, offering an immersive experience for visitors to join the protagonists' adventure.
With regard to The Candy House attraction, it was made with the help of over 1,000 schoolchildren. Visitors can view the attractively shaped goodies from a close distance, and sit on chairs modelled on coffee cups to take photographs.
On one side of the central lawn lays a 15m by 25m sunflower field carpeted with 5,000 sunflowers, while the other side houses a rose garden with over 4,000 fragrant roses of some 30 species.
Additionally, to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, visitors can enjoy the sight of a thematic floral wall adorned with carnations at the Hing Fat Street entrance of the flower show.
Organised by the Leisure & Cultural Services Department, the show will run from 9am to 9pm daily. An estimated 700,000 people are expected to attend.
