Chief Secretary Chan Kwok-ki (front row, first right) and Secretary for Labour & Welfare Chris Sun (front row, first left) play games with students.

Three community living room projects in To Kwa Wan, Hung Hom and Nam Cheong are expected to commence operations gradually within 2024 to provide support for subdivided unit households, particularly those with children.

Chief Secretary Chan Kwok-ki made the announcement after chairing the fifth meeting of the fifth-term Commission on Poverty today.

The Government said these three-year Community Living Room projects, with financial assistance from the Community Care Fund, could provide additional living space and expand subdivided unit households’ interpersonal network, thereby enhancing their living standard and sense of belonging to the community.

After the meeting, the Chief Secretary and Commission on Poverty members visited Tsuen Wan Public Ho Chuen Yiu Memorial Primary School, a participating school of the School-based After School Care Service Scheme.

Following a briefing, they talked to some families and were pleased to learn that the scheme has enabled parents to join the labour market and enjoy more family time. Mr Chan and Secretary for Labour & Welfare Chris Sun also joined students in group games.

The Government, with the Commission on Poverty, will continue to unite the forces of the Government, the business sector and the community in taking forward projects of targeted poverty alleviation, with a view to building a more caring and inclusive society, Mr Chan added.
