CPC Central Committee Hong Kong & Macao Work Office Director and State Council Hong Kong & Macao Affairs Office Director Xia Baolong is impressed with the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government’s work to aid the underprivileged via its community space initiative.

Secretary for Labour & Welfare Chris Sun made the statement after accompanying Mr Xia on a visit to the Sham Shui Po Community Living Room today, which covered the inspection of its facilities and interaction with its users.

Steered by the Hong Kong SAR Government, the goal of the Pilot Programme on Community Living Room is to improve the quality of life of grassroots families, especially those living in subdivided unit households.

Mr Sun said: “He is encouraged by what we do to help those in need. Because what is available here in the community living room is exactly what those living in poor conditions need - giving them a space for gathering, (and) for children there is a space for them to study and also socialise.

“And what is more important is to provide a common kitchen, as well as common areas where they can do laundry, and if necessary they can have a shower.”

He added that Mr Xia called on the Hong Kong SAR Government to continue its efforts to help the needy.

“So this is a very concrete measure by the Government and for that, Director Xia fully agrees with what we do. He encourages us to push ahead with the effort and do more to help those in need.”
