Lunar New Year fireworks to return

February 7, 2024

After a four-year hiatus, the Lunar New Year Fireworks Display will return to Victoria Harbour at 8pm on February 11, with 23,888 pyrotechnic shells being launched from three barges to celebrate the festival.

Themed “All trades thrive in the Dragon’s Year, China stands strong in the prosperous era”, the 23-minute firework extravaganza will include eight varied scenes.

Following an opening burst of silver lightning and thunder effects, the second scene will feature a lucky number “8” in different forms and colours, symbolising wealth and abundance.

“Five-coloured Cosmic Balls”, signifying the boundless sky and earth, will be introduced for the first time. The sixth scene, featuring fireworks in the shape of smiling faces and double hearts, is intended to instil positivity and enthusiasm.

The fireworks display will reach its climax in the final scene, which will feature huge brocade crowns lighting up the sky to wish Hong Kong prosperity and peace in the year to come.

Members of the public may enjoy the display from locations such as Tsim Sha Tsui, Mid-Levels, Central, Wan Chai, Causeway Bay and Hung Hom Bypass.

Some parts of the green lawns, passageways and viewing platforms at Tamar Park and the Central and Western District Promenade (Central Section) have been temporarily closed to prepare for a large-scale exhibition of outdoor art installations
